Sedentary life free essay sample

Many of the diseases which afflict people who do office jobs are the direct results of a sedentary lifestyle. Do you agree? That lack of activities in life contributes to many diseases is a fact. Nowadays, the image of office work as a safe and healthy occupation is destroyed. Many people have mentioned that office jobs and sedimentary-related diseases are inextricably linked together. While I accept that it may suit them, I believe that such illnesses are deeply rooted in poor general knowledge about health and it’s methods and also environmental pollutions in working places. Unfortunately, the rate at which the public knowledge grows is not as fast as health science. Due to some factors, such as poverty and poor educational strategies, many people are not aware of simple and appropriate methods of caring and prevention. Statistics show that more than sixty one percents of employers in offices who use computer and laptop frequently are not familiar with the best way of standing on chairs. We will write a custom essay sample on Sedentary life or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page It would result in or has a high likelihood to result in back pain and more pressure on heart. As many researchers assert, teaching many scientific proofs about physical situations would be able to prevent many office related diseases. Another important factor which has many knock on effects on employers is the sort of pollution existing in work place atmosphere. Offices in big cities often located in noisy and polluted part of town, so that workers are working in a very dense and dirty area. As a result, in Berlin, planners had decided to decline the density of offices in certain are during ten years and had distributed them uniformly in the country. This plan not only yields to a better traffic situation in Berlin, but it also come to more healthy working environments. If planers provide more facilities and subsides on teaching healthy styles in working offices and have an appropriate intervention in deciding about office location, it is a reason to hope to have a more healthy office workers in our society. A sedentary lifestyle is a mode of living in which a person, an adult or child, does not engage in sufficient physical activity or exercise for what is generally considered healthy living. The term is often used by doctors or professionals within the medical community to describe a lifestyle among  many people in highly developed countries that does not afford them opportunities for physical activity. This type of living has been heavily influenced by the propagation of passive forms of entertainment, such as television, video games, and computer use. Along with such inactive types of entertainment, large numbers of adult workers have shifted from physical labor to office jobs, especially in technologically developed nations. Many studies conducted by doctors and researchers have indicated a variety of negative impacts on a person’s life due to living a sedentary lifestyle. Most common among them is increased weight gain and obesity and the accompanying health problems they can cause, such as heart disease, diabetes, and increased chances of certain types of cancer. Lack of exercise can also have a negative impact on a person’s immune system, which can create the possibility for even more negative health consequences. Living this type of lifestyle is not necessarily synonymous with laziness, since a person can be very busy with work and family but without inherent opportunities to exercise. Someone who works at a computer in an office, typically driving or riding in a motor vehicle to and from work, and coming home afterward to watch television or sit in front of a computer once more is likely to stay busy but still not find ways to remain physically active. This means it can be critically important for people who work in these types of careers to find other opportunities for physical activity. Finding ways to get exercise throughout the day, even for someone who works in an office or drives all day, is an essential part of breaking free from a sedentary lifestyle. This can include walking, running, or performing other exercises during breaks and lunchtime as well as finding opportunities for exercise throughout the day. Practices like using the stairs instead of an elevator, parking farther from work to have to walk a bit more each day, and exercising legs and arms even while sitting at a desk are all excellent ways for someone to increase his or her activity. prevention is better than cure essay That subject has a long history and nowadays, all persons who work as medical man choose prevention ways and suggest it to others. If weve look in narrow view to medical treatment history we found ,how many people lost their life just for unknowing a simple thing on infections and ways of affliction. for example a specimen of fever which called milk fever is infected from milk to body and make an agitation in digestion and nervous and defensive systems in the body,it can doesnt occur if we just boiled milk. In fact,Cure has divided in two categories, known cure treatment is belonged to the first category and second group is about the treatments is under discover processing treatment.but prevention ways is known for all of them and for avoiding afflicted with a disease we need to know just some aware which can get it from different ways like broadcasting, internet or directly from physicians. I believe government play an important role in ascending prevention culture, they can done it by investigating in medical centers for different purposes like making training course for persons who relevant to the sickness or sending trainer to far land or border area.Give budget for developing in medical research and encourage people who work in this part. Many countries have many people believe in traditional treatment instead of scientifically, in many cases neither of them doesnt has scientific basis, but it has been originating from our descendants knowledge, it mean they have test and check it on many people and their outcome can be use by medical doctor to examine and find new solutions on avoidance way or treatment.for an species it was fame from the past, it shouldnt ate melon with honey because it made disorder in digestion system. From the day we born we have thought to brush teeth twice a day, wash hands before every meal, not to eat uncovered food from roadside shops and stalls, drink boiled water and many more good habits. And every child has given vocational injections like â€Å"polio†, â€Å"rubella†. This is all because to prevent disease instead of curing it. There are many reasons why people tend to prevent instead of cure. One reason is that some illnesses can’t be cured. Disease like HIV AIDS, dengi has no cure. Dengi infect ease have to stop all their work and rest till it get cured by body itself but AIDS have  no cure at all. So in this prevention is the only option. When you get sick, you have to visit doctors, buy medicines, sometimes bed rest till you get full recovered. All These things cost your valuable time. So preventing from disease save your time instead of curing. If you get sick, you may have to visit doctors and most of the time you have to pay for it. Also you cost money for the medication you buy. So preventing not only save your time, but also your money. Preventing yourself from disease also help to stop them from spreading. Preventing yourself is very important in times that epidemic disease spread. It may help to stop another hundreds of people getting infected and also in a country like Sri Lanka where the resources are limited you may saving a bed for a another person. Preventing save your valuable time, money and it helps t o stop disease from spreading. It’s clear that prevention is always better than cure I certainly think it is very true that prevention is better than cure. When we speak of illnesses, the common cold and influenza, or flu, comes to mind immediately. These two illnesses can be prevented although many people think otherwise. To prevent falling ill easily, one has to first build up his immune system. To do that is not as difficult or impossible as many would think. To build up our immune system, we need to eat well, sleep well and exercise regularly. By eating well, it does not mean that one has to gorge oneself during each mean. Rather, it means he has to be more aware of what he eats. Put simply, it means he has to eat food that is beneficial to his body, namely those that contains all the essential vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates and fat necessary to keep him healthy. The amount a person requires form each groups depends greatly on his lifestyle. Thus, the diet of a person who does mainly sedentary work is different from that of a person who labours manually for the most part of the day. Sleep, as everyone knows, is important as it gives our bodies the rest that we need. We should try to sleep at least eight hours a day so that our tired bodies have enough time to recuperate and be ready for another day. Very often, a person thinks he can skip an hour or two a night to watch an exciting programme on television, or to finish a game on the computer. Little does he realize that by skipping an hour or two each evening, he is depriving his body of precious recuperating time. This time lost cannot be made up by extra sleeping hours at a later date. As time goes on, he grows more susceptible  to illnesses as his body becomes weaker from the lack of sleep. The next important thing to note is, of course, exercise. By exercising regularly, a person is building up resistance to viruses and bacteria that find easy prey in people who do not exercise. Thus, it is possible to prevent illnesses by building up a strong immune system though eating healthily, sleeping well and exercising regularly. Prevention implies to stop doing something. Cure means to find a solution. Man is prone to commit mistakes. Prevention is the shield which saves mankind from many disasters, chaos and destruction. Man can foresee the happenings of the future. He checks himself from doing anything wrong. We must measure very step we take. Cure involves much more effort and pain than what would needed to prevent a problem from affecting us. A cure is a blessing, but prevention is more than a blessing. It is better than cure. A wise act of cautious mind can check us from stepping into something wrong or dangerous. The act of right living makes everything possible. Living in the right sense means living judiciously, wisely and cautiously. Man has the knowledge of distinguishing between the right and the wrong, the good and the evil,. the safe and the dangerous. He can judge them and escape from dangers and difficulties before thy engulf him. Many fail to distinguish between them and find themselves trapped. Then they seek a cure. Prevention halts or obstructs the danger or evil etc, from the person before it overpowers him. It makes the person escape from it completely. Cure is a solution for the danger or evil which has already engulfed him. Hence, prevention is better than cure. A man is judged by his character and manners. His character can be easily polluted. Sometimes people happen to come in contact of bad people. This affects their life badly. They can become a slave to bad habits like smoking, drinking, gambling etc. They may create problems in his family affairs, health and finances. They can lead a healthy life if they avoid them and prevents themselves from falling into such habits. Prevention can be ensured by planning ahead. An unfortunate act can be avoided if planning is done well in advance. If you want to lose some weight, have a plan, if you want a new job, have a plan. Everything usually goes systematically if we plan for it earlier. The planned programme of vaccinating children well in time has led to the decrease of the incidence  of diseases like polio, measles, tetanus etc. Thus, vaccination can prevent in time will help in the . prevention of these diseases in time will help in the eradication of the same. It is also correct when it is said that we have to take risk or listen to our instincts at some level, but it is also a fact that we cannot take risk in some aspect of like education, finance, health etc. Any kind of carelessness in these aspects may cause destruction. So it is better to take all necessary precautions before hand. A healthy, balanced diet and daily exercise can prevent the risk of falling prey to obesity. The obesity diseases like heart ailments, diabetes, blood pressure ect can also be taken care of. Todays, AIDS is the most terrifying and deadly disease. AIDS in incurable but it is preventable. Millions of people are suffering from this dreadful disease. A negligent act can make one suffer from AIDS. The use of disposable needles, safe sex, tested donors blood to a recipient and loyalty t ones spouse can prevent one from getting infected by HIV. Preventive measures taken in other areas also lessen the intensity of suffering. Keeping an eye on market position can prevent stock broker and a share holder from an economical fall or financial catastrophe. Population control measures would lead to better living conditions. Better education system would result in well informed citizens taking right decisions. Dams can prevent the occurrence of flood. Weather forecasting helps people to take preventive measures against dangers like tsunami, cyclone etc. The new techniques of seismology has been introduced to forecast the earthquake. It helps us to take preventive measures. To know how to prevent, one needs to be alert. One should be very careful while doing something. We should start every work only after judging the pros and cons of that. It is better to avoid doing certain things, the benefits of which are not significant. By combining ones judgment and preventive abilities, one can lead a joyous and healthy life

Mentally Ill in Jail essays

Mentally Ill in Jail essays The articles inform that more mentally ill people are in jail than in hospitals. According to statistics 159,000 of mentally ill are presently incarcerated in jails and prisons, mostly of crimes committed because they were not being treated. Some of them become violent and may terrorize their families and neighborhoods. Tragically, most of those instances of incarceration are unnecessary. We know what to do, but for economic, legal and ideological reasons, we fail to do it. The deinstitutionalisation of the severely mentally ill in the 60ties qualifies a as one of the largest social experiments in American history. In 1995, there were 558,239 severely mentally ill patients in the nations public psychiatric hospitals. In 1995, the number has been reduced to 71,619. The deinstitutionalization created an mental illness crisis by discharging people from hospitals without ensuring that they receive medication and rehabilitation services in the community. Consequently, 2.2million severely mentally ill do not receive any psychiatric treatment. Mental patients were released from psychiatric hospital in the belief that permitting them to live in a freer environment was more humane and would improve their well-being. Instead, they turned up in prisons where they are virtually devoid of dignity and lack adequate treatment and understanding. Besides, even if they take medications and might get better in jail, there is no guarantee that they will continue with the treatment after they are released into the communities. And so the vicious circle goes on. The solution to the problem is to provide sufficient funding to the community-based mental health system so people could be helped before they become part of the prison system. Services like medication therapy and monitoring, residential services, rehabilitation services and support services are successful in bringing the severely mentally ill back ...

The Uses Of Liberal Education Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 3

The Uses Of Liberal Education - Essay Example Using logos, the author explains that poor people lack the power to negotiate their position and life condition. They are trapped by external and internal forces, which sometimes appear too overwhelming and thus insurmountable. The only weapon they can use to navigate through life is an equal force to match the forces they are encountering. This force for them is violence and gun culture. It is for this reason that many of them end up in prison. If they knew that there were other ways to negotiate and that they too could enjoy a voice in public matters, these people could come out of the vicious circle of poverty. Pathos has been effectively employed- mostly to highlight the plight of those who suffer from extremes of poverty. It is most prominent in the case of Niecie, the inmate at Bedford Hills who first gave the idea of the use of liberal education as a weapon for success. Viniece Walker was a twenty-year-old when she came to the prison and during her time there, her HIV had progressed significantly but she had defiantly pursued a college degree in psychology. She had been described as the best inmate because apart from her education, she was also fully engaged in offering counseling services to inmates. Ethos comes into action when the author tries to establish the moral grounds for his research. Why should the poor always remain poor? Why must the rich have the tools of negotiation while poor were completely ignorant of them? The author raises the question: why are poor people poor? And realizes that none of the people he interviewed mentioned lack of money or proper jobs. Some of them had a vague idea; others clearly felt that lack of education was the reason. The ethics of this argument lies in the inability of the poor to access the tools of negotiation that rich possessed.

Rug Bug Corporation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Rug Bug Corporation - Essay Example However, this is a small number when compared with the reported 4.5 million children who suffer from disabilities. So why do wheelchairs not sell to more children who need them The primary reason seems to be the high cost and the short period of usefulness of the equipment. If we consider the total number of children using wheelchairs and the age span of 8 years (14-6) that translates to less than 10,000 additional purchases each year, excepting of course, the replacements. As against this you have projected sales of 340; 5400; and 22,400 units in the first three years of operations - in a market that is growing at three percent anuually. This is not likely to go down well unless substantiated by other arguments. The additional market for children suffering from muscular dystrophy needs to be explained in greater detail and supported by data. In the meanwhile, you ought to consider revising the investment proposal by reducing projected sales in the 2nd and 3rd years. However, the projected sales and the promotional activity required to bring this message across require a spread over the entire US. This will be impossible to achieve within the small fund flow projections. The second factor will obviously be the backing of the medical fraternity for the product. Information about the unique qualities of the product followed by demonstrations would be required. The Business Plan You have made and presented the business plan without supporting most of the information with details of how these figures have been arrived at. These will definitely be required to be included. There is a need to clearly state the assumptions made and highlight the strengths of the organization that will be responsible for the operations of the company. Financing This is the most important part of the presentation and must be developed on a more realistic basis. I wish to point out that in addition to the overestimates of the sales in the coming years the

Prior researches did extensively have pointed in the direction of a prominent and significant relationship between managerial behaviours and organizational outcomes, including employees’ job satisfactionp, productivity, performance, job involvement, intentions for voluntary turnover, and likelihood of burnout at the workplace (Andersson and Floren, 2008). Hence, managers need to be highly capable of responding to numerous role expectations and behaviours for them to accomplish a trait that is most important in today’s highly competitive scenario, which is managerial effectiveness (MacMahon and Murphy, 1999). Change is an inevitable feature of workplaces due to several inherent reasons and situations. The presence of change has become a great challenge for companies in trying to achieve long-term success and survival, thus, the need for highly capable and competent managers. In order to efficiently and effectively select managers, competent enough to face organizational issues is one of the most important measures that a company can take as a response to the changing environment. This could be accomplished by enhancing their skills and knowledge continuously, so as to keep up with rapidly change pace (Martynov, 2010). Essentially, while organizations ensure that, only the most competent employees are recruited and trained, developmental efforts are constantly in place to further enhance the effectiveness and overall quality of their managerial workforce. The Company Magners Cider Marketing Essay

The Company Magners Cider Marketing Essay Global logics can be explained as a process to determine globalisation with successive dimensions, each taken separately, and interpreted for telling patterns. The existence of global logics means that the company recognizes the need to find a appropriate response to address concern regarding globalisation. The nonattendance of global logics specifies that issues of globalisation are not correctly addressed. The understanding of these logics has been helpful to reduce the complexity to globalise a company(Jeannet n.d.). Magners cider has always fostered the mechanism of making the right product available to the people at the right place. In France people are inclined to drink for pleasure and less inclined to binge out, the French people consume slightly more alcohol than their neighbours Britain (also biggest consumers of magners cider), this is due to the fact that French like to have drinks during meals, and most French men do not find it smart to get drunk. 4/5th of the magners consumers under the age of 24 like to drink in the bar, only a tenth of customers choose magners over bar. It is also a fact that men are most likely to consume cider than women. Nevertheless, female would prefer to have cider in a garden or a part, cider is not considered as a drink they would have with food (Just-drinks 2010). Magners has catered the global customer needs and advantages of its products considering the segmental and geographical differences. The primary quality of the product is that its natural drink ma de from apples. This is great competitive benefit with a world full of food additives. Also the death rate in france is high these days, so people are considering switching to healthier drink options which can prove to be very advantageous for magners. Also cider has fewer calories than beer, which will make it appealing to health conscious people especially women(Keynote 2009). Thats why the company will make sure that Magners cider is shown with apples and served on ice in each advertisement. Magners will strengthen cider by showing it as a mixture of seventeen different types of apples. In short, the company wants to show the product as a traditional company with a great experience that manufactures a distinctive natural product. It is very essential to have an intense promotional campaign, because it is very difficult to maintain such promotion activities for a long time, so it is essential to have two levels of communication: Intense Communication during the launch phase to increase brand awareness Long term communication to have a presence in peoples mind (Appendix 2). 3.2 Global Competitor Logic When competition creates a compelling debate to practise globalisation, global competitor logic comes into play. In a few industries a company faces different set of competitors in different markets, point towards low competitor logic; same is the case of magners in france. The customary cider distilled in France was once not so popular because of negative image and declining sales, but it is essential to give emphasis to space for growth in the sector especially in the over the ice cider which magners is famous for; to support this declaration French brewer which was experiencing rapid decline in the beer market for 25 years has decided to enter cider market with its Apple frost drink and aiming to sell 25,000 bushels in its initial year of launch, this will be the main competitor in the over the ice cider market (Perkins n.d.). Also MDD (Marque de Distributeur) has largest cider market share of 41.5%, LoÃÆ' ¯c Raison has 22.5% and Ecusson and Autres has 10% each(Keynote 2010). 3.3 Global Regulatory Logic Alcohol consumption patterns and drinks preferences vary from country to country. All countries have different laws regarding consumption and minimum required for it. It can be said that global regulatory logic is high, because regulations differ from country to country and France has been very strict about its amendment. In France alcohol kills about 45,000 people and costs 17.6 thousand millions à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬ each year. In 2005, the parliament of France amended a law on alcohol advertisement called the Evin law, which was the result of consensus between public health specialists and consensus wine firm owner (Keynote 2011). This law allows using objective characteristics during promotion but bans any form of qualitative arguments. The manufacturers of wine will be able to use facts such as geographical area, explanation about colour and taste (Bremer n.d.) (Perkins n.d.). The deficiency of social problems in France due to alcohol is because drinking is very expensive in bars, so young people usually purchase very less from bars and then move to home. France has no intention to follow the path of its neighbour Britain when binge drinking is involved. Authorities have the power to strip the bar from its license, and people are advise carry DIY breath testing kits to verify themselves before driving. Alcopop (beverages including distilled alcohol) was heavily criticised and government taxed them out disagreement (EPHA 2007)(Hennessey Jeannet n.d.). 3.4 Global Information Logic Information acquirement by customers is very important factor for global marketing strategies, its a way how consumers scrutinize the environment, the different types of media they are exposed to and how much they are willing to travel to acquire certain information. Magners has always relied heavily on TV advertising, but in France there are legal consequences of promoting alcohol on television and is strictly forbidden. But magners has always invested heavily on marketing and advertising and will use other forms of effective advertising. Magners will focus on radio advertising, and other forms of outdoor advertising such billboards and bus stop advertisements. One should keep in mind alcohol promotion in France must transmit a moderate message(Bremer n.d.). These types of promotion are best way to highlight orchards orange through seasoned affected life style. Magners has a difficult task of overcoming cynical and hesitant audiences to communicate the right message of brand. Past p romotional campaigns have seen magners create outdoor implementations to influence natural apple proposition. Advertising has been central part of magners entry in the international market. Global information logic here is strong as magners as always relied on TV, radio, press, advert boards in all of the countries it operates (except TV in France)(Martin 2007). Marketing Strategies Target Group Primary target Group: Magners cider primary target group would be young singles aged between 18-34. They can be either male or female as its appealing to both. Secondary target group: All the people allowed consuming alcohol. Cider is a drink for all ages in England. This expression was also to be created in French market Our secondary target group are basically all the people, who are allowed to drink alcohol. Cider is a drink which is consumed by people of all ages in Great Britain. This image is meant to be created in the French market as well. Magners cider aims to sell the product all over France. But at an initial stage, the company would like to test the product in big cities like Rennes, Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon, Nizza and Grenoble. Also Magners is supporting English rugby teams, so magners want to do the same by selling cider in French rugby cities like Auvergne, Toulouse, Perpignan and Montpellier (Appendix 1). This report has scrutinized the global logics applicable for Magners Cider when entering the French market, it come across French market and people perceptions about the product. It can be said that clear magners cider has no real competition in France as there are no direct competitors for direct competition for over-ice bottled cider. It is important to note that attitude towards drinks is different in France, but still it has an image of being a traditional, old-fashioned drink which young consumers dont like to drink, however consumers have different perceptions for new drinks like ice cider. It is important to note that alcohol advertising is prohibited in France, and there are strict rules on these type of advertising, nevertheless magners will look into the past promotional strategies to overcome such barrier and catch the attention of the French people, relying on heavy advertising budget of outdoor advertising etc. Entering French cider market is a good decision as magners b rand image will help it to overcome its competitors (direct indirect) very easily.

The following morning is a dreadful, long one that stays with you forever. The memories in your mind keep crawling up every night when you fall asleep. You keep asking yourself, â€Å"Why did it happen to me? What did I do wrong?† Yet no answer comes to mind, all that you can think of is being violated, being misled for a simple task-rape. Why does it happen to us? What do the men see when the door is opened and a gorgeous women stands in front of their eyes. The mind collapses trying to find a solution to the problem. It's like having an exam and the only way for you to score is to cheat. So all girls are just scores guys try to push themselves upon? The mind grows blank and the human body works with sexual instinct. Date rape is one of those things that one man can't find a proper answer for. There are so many possibilities that one might think of as the cause of the problem. Which one is the right one? Is there one specific answer that is physiologically correct? No. Everyo ne has his or her own opinion, whether it is from experience or from common knowledge. Date rape is mainly cased by the in-proper behavior of the rapist. A man who can rape a woman has obviously been brought up in an uncomfortable, improper raised environment. A young boy who watches violent sex related movies, is most likely to be sexually violent in his life. A child who is not taught from right and wrong is not going to understand what a girl might want out of a date compared to his urges. Men don't necessarily understand that "No" actually means no. Stubbornness works strongly with the mind. A young boy looks up to his father, he wants to be like his father, and act like his father. When the parents ignore their children it causes them to become very free in their decisions; it makes them believe that they can do whatever they please. For example, if a child is being ignored by both o his parents, than they are not around that child when he or she do something wrong. Yet the child doesn’t know that. The child thinks that if no one stops his or her actions than he can do it again. That is how bullies are raised-it leads the mind to more. On Teenagers and Tattoos

The Impact on Society of Teenage Tattooing The Impact on Society of Teenage Tattooing Does the tattoo define the person, or does the person define the tattoo? In modern society tattoos are widely accepted except when applied to the skin of an adolescent. Adolescents with tattoos face judgment from a variety of people such as authoritative figures, parents, and their peers. This article (On Teenagers and Tattoos, by Andres Martin, MD. ) provides examples of how society views adolescents with tattoos. Tattoos are something we see on people on an everyday basis, but on adolescents, it is not very common. Many adults believe that those in the younger generation sometimes get tattoos to enrage affronts to their authority. Parents in general do not approve of their children decorating their bodies with modifications such as tattoos because of their irreversible and permanent nature. Like makeup, fashion or hairstyles tattoos can also be just another way to fit in with their peers. When give n the chance it is important to understand the motivations and significance of a tattoo before making an erroneous judgment.Tattooing is a way of fitting into a peer group or expressing one’s own individuality. Adolescents often turn to tattooing as a way to take back some control of their evolving bodies as well as their lives. When an adolescent feels that there is a lack of stability in his life (such as divorce, abandonment, and repeated family relocations) he may feel that getting a tattoo may return a sense of control and stability into his life. Adolescents are often influenced by peers to get a tattoo but do not put any thought into its permanence or how they may feel about it in the future.Author Andres Martin says â€Å"The frequency of self-made tattoos among hospitalized, incarcerated, or gang-affiliated youth suggests such motivations: a sense of stability may be a particularly dire need under temporary, turbulent or volatile conditions. † In every argumen t there are two sides to be heard, and the other side in this case is the adolescents. Adolescents believe in expressing themselves through art. They also believe tattoos are a way of representing their individuality. I believe that teenagers get tattoos for various reasons that are important to the person. Some get them for personal reasons such as a memorial tattoo for a deceased family member, or a ribbon to show support for someone fighting their battle with cancer. An inspirational quote such as a bible verse, poem, or a song lyric may also be another choice for the adolescents tattoo. Fantasy characters are also a popular choice. On the other hand there are various negative reasons teenagers get tattoos as well; for instance, to defy their parent’s authority, to represent a gang affiliation, to draw attention to themselves, and sometimes as a dare.I have observed that some older people have an aversion to tattoos on teenagers as opposed to some young parents that find it acceptable. Older people may assume that the adolescents tattoo is gang related or that they are a troubled youth. Some people believe that the parents of an adolescent with a tattoo may be neglectful or unaware of what is going on in their child’s life. Some older people are against body modifications of any form and look down on those who have them. After reading through this article I found that it thoroughly explains the pros and cons of adolescents with tattoos.Although I do respect the writers view on the subject, I disagree. I personally believe that as a part of growing up a teenager should be allowed to get a tattoo but only after being fully informed of the consequences that getting a tattoo may bring. Some of the problems that might ensue are possible rejection from a specific field of work for the visibility of a tattoo, a wrong assumption about the character of a person with a tattoo, or even later in life having to cover a tattoo or get it removed because your own personal feeling about it has changed.I personally have been debating on getting a tattoo myself, although my family doesn’t approve It’s my body and I will make the final decision. I am very well aware that in five maybe ten years from now I could quite possibly hate my tattoo and regret not listening to my family. I am also aware of how expensive and painful laser removal is but I’m prepared to suffer the consequences if and when I decide to get a tattoo. Most adolescents don’t think beyond the tattoo itself or its ramifications Martin, Andres. Baker College Composition. Revised Edition ed. Boston Ma: Pearson Learning Solutions, n. d. 320-23. Print

The Crucible By Arthur MIller Essays

The Crucible By Arthur MIller Essays The Crucible By Arthur MIller Paper The Crucible By Arthur MIller Paper Now, Betty, dear wake up now. Its Abigail. (She sits Betty up and furiously shakes her. ) Ill beat you Betty. This violent language is a key to how violent Abigails behaviour is. She knows what she wants and she is prepared to do whatever it takes to get it. Abigails character has many flaws, people would think passion is a good thing, and it is, but Abi is too passionate, she is willing to have innocent people killed, just to get rid of John Proctors wife, so she can be with him. Abigail Williams does not seem to be a very religious person. (This is proven in her later life. She was found in Boston later on in life, living as a prostitute. ) She is mischievous, a liar, an adulterer, and in a sense, a murderer. You get an idea of her character from the first few pages. Uncle we did dance; let you tell them I confessed it. This shows she is not concerned about the fact she was caught breaking the rules. In puritan times people were not allowed to have fun as it was seen as ungodly. The only time you could celebrate was when somebody built a new barn; they held a sort of barbeque. They have cider and dance. If there hasnt been a new barn built then puritan life was uneventful. This is why I think all of the rumours of witchcraft were started. It was just people wanting to have some fun in Salem. Little did they know what this fun was going to result in. Abigail Williams is a strong character throughout the whole play. All of the girls do what she says and they follow her every action. The fact that those who lie are saved and Proctor, whose conscience finally wont allow him to lie, is hanged, is another example of dramatic irony in the sense that we already sense that being truthful in such a society is the most dangerous thing to be. Examples of dramatic tension in this scene are the manner in which Mary at first begs (pleading) Abigail to believe that she is doing nothing to harm her. This tension is highlighted by the fact that the girls echo everything that Mary says. In Marys frustration, she screams at the girls, (at the top of her lungs and raising her fists) to Stop it! . Even more dramatic tension comes later in the scene when Mary, either because she realises that she has to go along with Abigail in order to stop the accusations against her, or because she has been caught up in Abigails hysteria, reunites herself as part of the girls group and pretends to the court that Proctor has made her stand up to Abigail in order to save his wife. Ill murder you, he says, if my wife hangs! We must go and overthrow the court, he says. Mary has just caused even more drama by completely overturning the focus onto Proctor and by now transferring all the pressure onto him. Dramatic irony and tension come together to create what must be one of the most memorable scenes in the whole play, Elizabeths only lie. Religion is Elizabeths life, she believes wholeheartedly in the commandments and would not dream of breaking them for any reason. Because Proctor is aware of this, he knows he can relay on his wife to back him and prove to the court how evil Abigail is, but Proctor has confessed to the court out of anger that he has known her. The court now do not know whether they can trust John and what he has to say. In order to prove to them the real Abigail, John preaches how Elizabeth has never lied, and therefore they can get the truth from her. In her life, sir, she has never lied . Elizabeth is fetched from the jail unaware that her husband has confessed to his affair with the vain Abigail and the drama begins again with Danforth questioning Elizabeth. We, the audience and the others in the room, Proctor and Abigail, know of the confession bringing about the irony in the scene. Elizabeth is confused when she arrives, and is ordered not to look at anyone but Danforth, making her nerves and unsure of herself. Danforth states, We are given to understand that at one time you dismissed your servant, Abigail Williams Elizabeth agrees and is asked to explain why. She looks at her husband for a clue as what to say, but seems confused and unsteady why anyone would be asking her the nature of her dismissal of Abigail unless they had come into knowledge of the affair. Despite this, Elizabeth tells Judge Danforth that Abigail dissatisfied her, but Danforth is not happy with this answer and digs deeper. As he does so Elizabeth glances at Proctor for a cue but she knows what answer Danforth is looking for and whilst speaking but unknowing what to say she keeps glancing at her husband but is repeatedly shouted at saying you will look in my eyes only, not at your husband. This is creating tension because we know that whatever Elizabeth says there will be a bad outcome. As the play comes to a close, Proctor is torn between saving his life and saving his name. He feels that he has lost the battle against witchcraft. He considers his name to be the one thing he has left. I have given you my soul; leave me my name! . Proctor would rather die with his name pure and white, then live knowing that he can not live a full life. He does sign the document in which he admits to witchcraft, which makes him seem selfish, but he will not accuse others of witchcraft, I have three children how may I teach them to walk like men in the world, and I sold my friends? , which preserves his heroic qualities, nor will he allow himself to be made into an example, You will not use me! You will not use me! It is no part of salvation that you should use me! . To himself, he is nothing but a fraud. He is consumed with self-doubt. He has nothing left but his name, it is his name and no one can ever take this from his as it is his own identity and is the only possessions he has left worth having. This is a very emotional scene, Salems witch hunt has taken everything from proctor; Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name! .

Gap Year, Working Experience, and Competition Essay

Gap Year, Working Experience, and Competition - Essay Example I believe attending college immediately can prove to be more beneficial since it can provide the students with a better opportunity to build a career and increase their skills and earnings. If a student decides to take a â€Å"gap year† or more time before going to college, he will lose the determination and enthusiasm to carry on with his studies. One might consider himself â€Å"too old† to enroll in a college and therefore will lose the chance of building a strong career. Majority of the students lose the opportunity of obtaining a scholarship right after their high school that can be very beneficial in helping them with the tuition fee and other finances of the college. As Nancy Sylvester states â€Å"if a student finds that he qualifies for a grant, he might decide to give college a try. The money can make a difference† Most importantly the knowledge gained from high school would still be fresh in the student’s mind and so he would be able to make use of it in college education. If a student enrolls in college right after the completion of high school, he would have no difficulty in socializing and interacting with his fellow students since they will be of the same age. Group 2: Process Analysis and Narration (1) In approximately 200–350 words, using process analysis and narration techniques, explain how best to ready oneself for an interview With a cut throat competition for jobs in today’s world, qualifying an interview is more vital than it had ever been. The crucial meeting in person with your employer is an individual’s best chance to prove his worth therefore one should try his best to get ready for an interview. Firstly, research the corporation or the institution in advance and try to incorporate that information at some point in the meeting. This will enhance the candidate’s credibility with the person taking the interview and will assist the candidate to form intellectual queries to inquire from the interviewer. As according to Matthew J.Delcua â€Å"since you have taken time to consider how you present yourself, †¦ it is only fair for you to evaluate how the organization presents itself† Secondly get ready to answer some frequently asked questions that interviewer is expected to inquire, for example the weaknesses and strength of the candidate, the reason for applying in a specific corporation and an explanation as to why the employer should hire the applicant. Thirdly one should try to get references from important people like managers, colleagues and professors. Then the applicant must organize the important documents such as resume, collection of one’s work etc so to present them to the interviewer. Most importantly the applicant should dress properly and look professional. For the interview one should arrive at least 15 minutes earlier and remain confident as every interview is an experience to learn and even if one doesn’t get accepted h e will be more prepared the next time. Group 3: Narration and Persuasion   In approximately 200–350 words, using persuasive (argument) techniques, convince a friend or relative that dogs or cats (you must choose one) make better pets. Majority of the people would consent with a fact that keeping a pet is a magnificent experience. However, some pets need plenty of maintenance as dogs bark and require considerable time devotion on one’

E-commerce in the life of Qatari Women Research Paper

E-commerce in the life of Qatari Women - Research Paper Example From the perspective of a business, IT allowed companies to operate online and reach global customers at the most cost efficient way. One of the dimensions of IT is e-commerce and it acts as a tool that facilitates online business. In addition, it has also helped customers to carry out online purchases irrespective of the time and geographic location. The negative factors on the other hand appeared in the form of security threats. Before getting further deeper into the study, a brief overview of e-commerce is presented below. The notion of e-commerce can be traced back during the epoch when the concept of the internet just came into light. During the earlier days, e-commerce was deemed as the process through which companies used to carry out their transaction over the electronic platforms (Majumdar, Cave, and Vogelsang, 2005). During this period, the concept of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) has also emerged and companies used these tools to tra nsact in an efficient manner. These technologies have allowed companies to complete transactions electronically and companies were hugely benefitted by it. However, the commercialization of e-commerce only became possible during the early 1990s and as soon as it became commercialized a number of business houses such as eBay and amazon.com have taken their business online (Reynolds, 2004). In the early stages, companies had shown more interest in using the internet as a tool for promoting the business, but for the last decade it companies became more active in selling their products and services over the online platforms (eCommerce-Lund, 2004). From the point of view of customers, e-commerce eased several kinds of activities. For example, it allowed customers to shop during their convenient time and also allowed them to carry out shopping sitting inside the home (Bhasker, 2006). The sales figures also experienced huge growth. According to reports, the growth was around 32% in 2012, i n comparison to 2011 (Provost, 2012). Apart from e-shopping, e-commerce also allowed customers to carry out banking transactions. Hence, it is evident that e-commerce now acts as part and parcel of the life of human beings. Executive Summary This study seeks to shed light on the impact of e-commerce in the life of Qatari Women. The primary objective was to identify the problems faced by Qatari women in using e-commerce in their daily life. In order to address the objectives, the study will carry out a survey of 10 people so as to know their perception about e-commerce. In order to analyze the findings, the study used qualitative approach. Both primary and secondary research was undertaken to identify the problems associated with e-commerce in the life of Qatari women. The key findings of the study were that Qatari women face problems related to the payment gateway, security issues, delivery issues and issues pertaining to terms and condition. In order to triumph over these issues, t he Qatari women should make themselves more familiar with such platforms and should only use authentic platforms. Similarly, the government must ensure that the websites are transparent enough and is offering secure payment gateways. The Problem The women of Qatar exercise full right so as to take a proactive role in the society and simultaneously act as a vital element in the development process of the country. With the modernization of the society, the Qatari women have also adopted themselves with the shifting market dynamics (qatarembassy,
